Michael Kors (NYSE: KORS) continues to recover from negative sell-side commentary earlier in the week which tripped-up the high-growth retail stock. Benefiting today was bullish comments from Canaccord Genuity analyst Camilo Lyon.
Lyon said, “Sentiment on KORS has turned overly negative on what we believe are unfounded concerns over recent promotional activity. In our opinion, the recent weakness in KORS (down 9% vs. a flat S& 500 over the last three days) presents a buying opportunity.”
He added “At the center of the current debate is the belief that KORS has become increasingly promotional during the last weeks of June and in early July, thus indicating slacking demand and/or gross margin pressure. According to the research we have performed throughout the quarter, we believe the markdowns at retail were no deeper than last year. If anything, the duration of the promotional period looks to have been ~1 week longer than last year around the July 4 holiday week, which is a typical markdown/clearance period.”
The firm reiterated a Buy rating and price target of $123.00.
